Below is an explanation of the different home styles

RANCHER / BUNGALOW
(One Level)

The living area (bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen etc) are all located on one level and there is no lower level. The living area could be on a crawl space or slab.

RANCHER WITH BASEMENT
(Two levels)

The living space is on one floor with either a full or partial in-ground basement. Usually it has an inground walkout basement. The entrance of the home is located on the upper level.

RANCHER WITH LOFT
(Two levels)

Similar to Rancher style but it also inludes a loft area above the main living space.

BASEMENT ENTRY (Two levels)
Main living area (bedrooms incl. master bedoom, living room, dining room, kitchen etc) all on the top floor.

Below there may be a suite, recreational area, workshop or more bedrooms. This lower floor is either at ground level or slightly below.

The entrance is located on the ground level and there is a flight of stairs going to the main living area upstairs

SPLIT ENTRY  (Two levels)
Main living area (bedrooms incl. master bedoom, living room, dining room, kitchen etc) all on the top floor.

Below there may be a suite, recreational area, workshop or more bedrooms. This lower floor is either at ground level or slightly below.

The entrance is a bit higher than ground level and upon entry there is half a flight of stairs ascending to the top floor main living area and half a flight descending to the basement.

TWO-STOREY (Two Levels)

All bedrooms are upstairs, and only bedrooms are located ustairs, rest of the living area (living room, dining room, den, kitchen etc) is located on the main floor. This also includes 1½ storey or "Cape Cod", noted for its sloped ceilings.

TWO-STOREY WITH BASEMENT
(Three Levels)

As in a two-storey home, the living space is on the main floor with bedrooms upstairs, plus there is a 3rd level (basement) that may be either full or partial in-ground, at ground level, or below ground. This also includes 1½ storey or "Cape Cod", noted for its sloped ceilings.

3 LEVEL SPLIT
(Three Levels)

The living space is split between three levels, with the living room, dining room and kitchen on the main level, the bedrooms up, and the family room and laundry down. Usually on a combination crawl space and slab. Available as a side-split or as a back split.

4 LEVEL SPLIT
(Four Levels)

The living space is split between four levels. The living room, dining room and kitchen on the main level, bedrooms up, and family room and laundry down. The fourth level is the addition of a basement underneath the main living area in place of a crawl space.
